This talk focuses on the border zones of the ‚federal‘ states of ancient Greece and will analyse, in particular, certain cases of religious, cultural, economic and/or inter-ethnic activities that ignore the more political ‚federal‘ border zones but end up having a potential political significance as well. To what extent could effective management of such activities by federal states contribute to their stability? To what extent could such activities in of themselves contribute to that stability? These are just some of the questions which represent the starting point for this discussion.
