Project description:
'Cognitive Aspects of Mithraic Rituals In Pannonia' (CAMRIP) offers new insights into the types of ritual practices and range of religious experiences that occurred within Mithraic religious communities in the Roman provinces of Pannonia Superior and Inferior. Interdisciplinary cognitive and sensory theoretical perspectives are applied to the analysis of archaeological, epigraphic, and iconographic evidence for the cult of Mithras from six Pannonian settlements in order to investigate how Mithraic religious networks were formed and to shed new light on how ritual practices were learned, performed, remembered, diffused, and transformed among different Mithraic communities in Pannonia.
