Discussion Group – SR 12
Tuesday 28th April, 18.00
In this discussion group we will talk about methods for identifying and studying slavery in the ancient world. How can we identify slavery and enslaved people in the archaeological record? Are our current methods adequate? What ethical duty do we have as scholars to develop new ways of studying slavery?
Our discussion will focus around a newly published article, so please read it in advance: Seth Bernard (2025) Slavery, Prosperity, and Inequality in Roman Pompei. Past & Present. First View (the journal Past & Present is available online via the library).
