Information on the journal “Mitteilungen zur Christlichen Archäologie ”

Frequency of publication

The journal "Mitteilungen zur Christlichen Archäologie" (MiChA for short) was founded in 1995. It is published regularly once a year by the Verlag der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften (publishing house of the Austrian Academy of Sciences) and has an average of 100 to 120 pages with five scientific articles and mostly color illustrations as well as a bibliography on late antiquity and Christian archaeology in Austria (with an appendix on late antique-early Christian Ephesus). Since volume 9 (2003), the journal has also been published electronically.

Aim

The main aim of the journal is its international orientation, i.e. to make new research results in the field of Christian archaeology known worldwide. Another aspect is the promotion of young researchers.

Focus

The thematic area covered is Christian Archaeology in the broadest sense in the context of Classical Archaeology, Ancient History, Art History, Byzantine Studies, Classical Philology and Religious Studies.

Language

The articles are published in the international congress languages, i.e. German, English, French and Italian. There is at least one non-German article in each volume, with English predominating. However, in a German-speaking country like Austria, German should remain the language of science, which is why not all articles appear in English.
However, there are always English summaries with the title of the article and key words in English.
Articles are written by authors from all over the world, with a regional focus on the European and Mediterranean region due to the research topic, without being limited to this area.

Submission

The deadline for the submission of articles is the end of the year. The length of the articles should not exceed 24 printed pages (including illustrations).

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

The editors and editorial team proofread all articles thoroughly and take great care to ensure that they are methodologically correct and correspond to so-called honest scientific work and the latest state of knowledge.
Only articles that have not yet been published or accepted for printing are included.
