The excavations of Asopos and Aşağıseyit Höyük offer exciting new information about the cultural development of inland communities in western Anatolia, a region which has until now only been known from a few excavated settlements such as Aphrodisias, Beycesultan and Kusura. The material from the new excavations at Asopos and Aşağıseyit Höyük therefore is making a significant contribution to our understanding of of this region, especially as regards the material culture and chronology. In particular, new radiocarbon dates shed light on the Middle and Late Bronze Ages, the dating of which has until now proved problematic.
