In 2014, a large late antique mosaic was unearthed in the archaeological site of Vignale, located on the coast of central Tuscany. The floor had been already discovered in 1830, but it was never recorded and studied. Presumably at the beginning of the 20th century it was buried again and its memory went lost.
Apart the bizarre story of its double discovery, the mosaic of Vignale is intriguing from many points of view: it is a high quality fourth century polychrome pavement, following the North African tradition, and it had a very long life, having been restored and re-designed for at least three times.
