PANEL DISCUSSION – hybrid (SE 12 / ZOOM)

Monday, January 9th, 2023
05:00–06:30 p.m.

What next for theory in archaeology? What will the main directions and foci of archaeological theory be going forward? Should archaeological theory be integrated within the wider field of social theory, or is there still a need for archaeologically-specific approaches? What are the different trends across different national and linguistic traditions? And will we answer any of these questions before the drinks run out? Please join us to find out.

Oliver Harris (University of Leicester): Prize-winning author of Archaeological Theory in the Third Millennium, Ollie has been a major proponent  of posthumanist approaches, and has pioneered  innovative ways of collaborative writing. He primarily works on the Neolithic and Bronze Age of Europe.

Katharina Rebay-Salisbury (ÖAI):
Katharina is a leading authority on gender, childhood and motherhood, leading large-scale research projects and exploring new approaches to researching  human remains. She focuses in particular in the European Bronze and Iron Ages.

Uroš Matić (ÖAI):  Uroš is pushing forward the boundaries, not only of archaeological theory and gender studies, but also of Egyptological research, in particular in the second millennium BCE.

Organiser: Naoise Mac Sweeney
